Balance your 9-5 with running

happy runner girl

Running is an experience and when you see it that way the beauty of it is evident

Let me guess, you been thinking of starting or restarting your running journey but something always seem bigger than you and you haven’t gotten there yet to start or start over. Maybe your mind gives you a hard time with thoughts like: “I don’t have time”, “I am not fit enough”, “I don’t want to make a fool out of myself” and the list goes on.
Trust me, I know this feeling - it’s always the same doubts that appears. Here’s the truth about it though, we have all been there. It’s not just you feeling it. We have all once (twice, or more times) been on that first run, felt like we didn’t have time to take it, energy for it, and for each step run, wondered if our surrounding is just having a brilliant laugh about it all.

But here’s the thing, the difference between you and those already running is that they didn’t let their thoughts prevent them from taking on that experience running can bring you. I’m talking about a full body experience where your mind gets clear, your soul feels fresh, and your body feel lighter. The cherry on top is that every run will fuel you with a new set of endorphins released so the experience is really unique every single time. When you start to appreciate that fact, then your runs also shift for the better.

So here’s how you start, I believe you are now feeling it in your core and can’t wait to hit the running paths in your surrounding.

Starting phase - make the commitment to go for a run, just set a time and day and go no questions asked no excuses. When you are on your run, feel your body and mind shift and feel what changes you experience for every step you take.

You can go for a run for as long as you have time for. If you have only 20min do it anyways. If outdoor running isn’t your thing run at the gym or do what I love, go on running classes hosted at the gym.
Truth to be told, once you started you are already on the way and then you just have to hold on to the feeling that you have after the run to keep showing up for the next run and the next one after that.

Middle phase - Find your goal and purpose of running. Worldwide there are a bunch of running events throughout the year. If you want to, you can choose one of these as your goal and decide on a feeling, time, or experience the event shall bring you and train towards that. You can also just make it a goal that you want to let go of the stress from work after the day and so you focus on fully letting go of the daily work stress.

End effect - You’re now hooked aren’t you? You start to think bigger and want to join running events, improve your times and strengths for running, and focus more on nutrition as well. This is when you bring in more strategic training such as runners weight training to your weekly routines. I constantly share inspiration of runners strength training on my Instagram channel @nattysroad - feel free to try away some of these as they have helped me to snatch personal bests week after week. Gone are the days when work was draining you and chores were exhausting, now you have a new resource of energy all for free in your life.

Trust me, it’s that one decision that needs to happen and you suddenly are presented with a whole new reality of time, clarity, happiness and joy.

What do you say, join me for a run and let’s hit these running paths for starters and then do more? I’ll do it with you so you are not alone.

With Love, Natty
