Trier - A Runners Destination

In the middle of the Moselle wine region and just by the Luxemburg border you find lovely wine and some of Germanys best running paths if you ask me. Trier is one of those cities that will have you fall head over heels for it as a runner but also as a wine enthusiast. Think a rich soft taste of a dry white wine on a sunny day. Or when not enjoying a glass of wine you get that bubbly feeling from running along the impeccable views of the river Moselle.

I often travel through my work, and whilst not choosing the destinations, I still have the chance to enjoy the rich culture of it as I often have a week or two to explore around. If you ever been on a work trip you know it intel long days and short recovery times. This obviously also impacts your energy levels to be exploring around. Truth to be told, I’ve been there as well, being so exhausted after a day of work whilst abroad that I just fall into bed and sleep it all off. In true fashion to my inner curiosity to explore, you bet I didn’t like these situations as I knew I was sitting on the opportunity to see a new place.

Part of my health journey discovery has been to understand how much travel impacts my well being both in good and bad. For me travelling fuels my drive and energy and is vital to be somewhat consistent in my life for an ultimate good feeling within. This is not how it works for everyone, hence I encourage all to deep dive within to truly understand what travel means to you. We all love travelling but even love has many meanings.

This is how I explored Trier and the places I enjoyed the most.

To stay - I love camping stays in Trier, for many reasons but mainly because campsites are close to the nature and in Trier especially just along the running paths. Here’s two campsites I have had a wonderful time at and would at anytime return to.

Campingplaz Igel
Camping Treviris

That said, with age I have to come to enjoy comfort as well especially exploring hotel stays every once in a while. For my dog owners out there, here’s two great options for hotel stays with a dog.

Coffee Fellows Hotel Trier
Holiday Inn Trier

For a stay with a bit more vintage, you may also like the place below. Located at the top of the hill with views over Trier city.

To eat - the absolute favorites for food in town I’d say are Moonlicht sweets coffee, never miss your opportunity for a coffee and especially not if yu get one at such a cool place. If you are looking for a sit down, then head to Glockenstraße, such a cute small street with outside terraces and divine smelling food.

To do - If you are visiting Trier don’t miss out on a wine tour and a city exploring tour, trust me this will make your stay just that much more enjoyable.

I love a good city tour as these can get you so much more into depth of the destination. Especially when they are out of the peek times, so early mornings or late evening.
Here’s a lovely option for a city exploration tour in Trier.

Beside exploring the city, you’re midst a wine region that gives you the perfect excuse to get into a glass of wine. You cannot go to Trier and not try the wine there, it’s like going to Italy and not having Pizza.

You could argue with me now that wine isn’t really a healthy aspect of life, however I disagree. Wine tours are the perfect way to get social batteries charging. You’re out and about and learning something new.

Here’s an option to an inspiring wine tasting tour in Trier.

Last but not least, who would I be if i didn’t encourage you out for a run along the River Moselle. Just go for it and feel the joy of the amazing running paths!

Circling back to my big 3 of balanced health (if you haven’t read the post yet, find it here), between physical, mental, and emotional health, Trier was definitely a dream for keeping up with my physical health. If you are planning a trip to Trier, I’d love to hear all about it and what your experience is there.
