How to meet people in new cities
It’s that one thing that excites you that you need to make consistent in your life
It was the night of the meet up, you know one of those that are organised in big cities that bring people together around a topic of interest such as tech, travel, nomadism, entrepreneurship. If you haven’t heard of these meetups just yet you are missing out and need to get on board, these are such a lovely way to meet people from all walks of life. You can find different events both online and offline on the app “meetup”.
I went to a crypto meetup when the topic started to become a thing and people were all into mining… I’ve got to be honest with you, I didn’t know then, and still haven’t got a clue of the whole fuss about it. Maybe I’m just an old soul in that sense. Either way, in I went in my traditional fashion, together with my dog and nomad friends to get myself educated and make some new friends.
For me networking has always been rather easy and enjoyable. I tend to be curious about people and their stories. I like to know the person I’m talking to, beyond what mines they mine and what future they strive to create for themselves. Needless to say, small talk isn’t really my interest.
We live in such a fast phased world these days where it’s hard to slow down, and to really get to know the person you are in a conversation with. I find it rather rare, that people want to know your reasonings and pattern of thought. Yet this is what truly makes a person the individual they are. The thought pattern is what allows us to actually know each other. Before knowing someone, you cannot judge or have an opinion because it’s only based on your past and not theirs. Read it again, because that’s a powerful sentence. This is why I’m a strong advocate to get to question “why”, it’s the key to knowing someone. You bet this was my question for the night of the meetup as well, but the guys at site took it rather well.
During the meet up I had the great chance to meet a lot of interesting people and learn somewhat about the whole world of crypto. The latter one I then later unfortunately forgot all about. There were a couple of conversations that really stuck with me, one all about learning and teaching your brain to absorb new knowledge in a matter of time. Yes that’s a thing we can learn to to do. The other conversation was rather interesting. We connected with the person very quickly beyond the surface level, which obviously made it all that more enjoyable to stay in the conversation. They had a very strong entrepreneurial mindset, which obviously made it for a fellow entrepreneur just that more intriguing to dive deeper into the conversation.
I made some really good friends that night and learned a lot about how my social batteries are working (if you haven’t read the post about health and balance yet, you can dive into it here). I am someone that charges in conversation with people someone that isn’t afraid to let you on to my path (question is can you keep up?). I am also someone that thrives in learning things, it charges my mental battery and makes me feel whole.
Having realised these patterns, it’s also then just a matter of maintaining them to a charge level sufficient enough to concur every day life. In it’s simplicity, my routines need to contain an aspect of learning as well as an aspect of connecting with people to stay healthy. Having this information allows me to take back my power and stay in control of the direction of my life and always be able to determine if I’m moving in the right direction.
So you see, one event can give you so much more than just a night out if you are willing to utilize it for all it’s capacity. To be honest, I actually believe that for all things in life, we can make them really flourish if we start to approach them from various angles and that way gain control and time back to ourselves.
What do you think about this topic? I’d love to hear from you so feel free to reach out always.
With Love, Natty
